Position Overview

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Advancement and Public Relations and in close collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Advancement and Public Relations, the Chief Editor and Writer for Advancement and Public Relations (CEWAPR) will be responsible for producing and managing content related to advancement and alumni engagement. The CEWAPR will work to create, launch and manage the day-to-day operations of a virtual alumni portal, the Silver Pack. The Silver Pack will be an online augmentation of our existent print publication, Green and Silver. The work of the CEWAPR will be heavily focused on strategic and thematic integration of both the Silver Pack and Green and Silver as well as all other externally facing content, guided by the results of our recent alumni survey. We are working toward developing brand pillars that will align with our university priorities and this role will be integral to that process. The CEWAPR will write, solicit and triage student, faculty and alumni stories for the Silver Pack and Green and Silver, respectively. The CEWAPR will work collaboratively with the Editor of Digital Design and Content (EDDC) to lead an internal creative team to collaboratively design content and engagement decisions on an ongoing basis for the alumni portal. Additionally, the CEWAPR will help when necessary to develop cases for support for advancement priorities, help craft proposals and advancement related content


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop feature content and spearhead the solicitation of content development, managing its production and publication from student writers, alumni and faculty.
  • Oversee the procurement, printing and mailing process for Green and Silver Magazine.
  • Working with the EDDC, conceive and organize the thematic framework for the integration between the Silver Pack and Green and Silver. Help develop strategic themes aligned with alumni survey results designed to maximize alumni engagement.
  • When necessary and possible, assist with press releases, help with the development of advancement cases for support, white papers and other alumni and advancement communications.
  • Design other publications, invitations and promotional materials as requested.
  • Assist Alumni Director and Communications team with social media content.
  • Assist on special advancement and alumni engagement projects, such as featuring donors and events and conducting feature assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field required. 3 years' experience directly related to the duties specified is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of advancement communications, marketing, feature writing, publications, public relations, multichannel content strategy and/ or fund development.
  • Ability to work in a complex, changing, environment with a collaborative team working toward multiple deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Superb project management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to form and lead ad-hoc creative teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Banner.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require evening and weekend hours to meet set deadlines.
  • Work is sedentary in nature with 10 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry. General physical business office demands (talking on the phone, computer work, etc.) with our without accommodation required.
