Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery Location: Henry Ford St. John Hospital, Department of Surgery-Orthopedics. Department: Orthopedics Reports To: Supervising Orthopedic Surgeon Inpatient/Outpatient: 100% inpatient Case Load: 98% Adult, some young adult with ortho-trauma. Position Overview: Join our exceptional team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and attending physicians at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a contingent, inpatient-only orthopedic surgery position. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with exposure to a wide range of orthopedic cases. You will be responsible for inpatient rounding, postoperative care, alongside a great team of APPs and attending physicians. The position consists of 10-hour shifts, providing ample opportunity for both professional growth and hands-on experience in a leading trauma center. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of orthopedic experience. Strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care are essential. Please note that new graduates will not be considered for this position. Weekend requirement - Yes, every 4th weekend. Call requirement - No call requirement. OR Time - No. Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.| Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.| Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.| Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care. Licensure / Certification / Registration: - BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. - Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office. - Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office. - Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Education: - Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required. - Master's degree preferred. Work Experience: - 1 year of experience preferred. #APP Qualifications: * NP - Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) * PA - Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) * NP - Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan * PA - Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Licensure and Certification * Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application) * National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA) * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. * DEA/CSL, required through credentialing. Experience * At least 1 year APP experience, ortho preferred. * EPIC Experience, preferred. Skills * Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. * Commitment to patient-centered are and continuous professional development.
