The University of Iowa Athletics Department seeks applications from self-motivated, results-oriented individuals with an interest in gaining exposure and experience in an athletics administrative environment related to their field of study. This is a temporary, up to 40 hours per week position and does not include University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. (https://hawkeyesports.com/about-ui-athletics/) Responsibilities: The Iowa Athletics Big Ten Intern under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services and/or Assistant Athletics Director for Access, Opportunity and Diversity will assist the Athletics Department with the execution of its Strategic Plan Initiatives, performing duties, and gaining exposure in Athletics Administration and welcoming and respectful environment. Based on the area of interest/expertise they will be assigned to work in one or more Athletics units including, but not limited to: Administration, Access, Opportunity and Diversity, Event Management and Sport Operations, External Relations, Human Resources, Business Office, Student Athlete Academic Services, Facilities Operations, Center for Advancement, Compliance, Sport Performance, Information Technology, Ticketing, Licensing, etc. They will also be invited to audit/participate in the Athletics Department First Year Seminar Program offered to incoming freshmen students to learn more about the various units within Athletics. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree;
- Experience as a former Big Ten Conference student-athlete;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills,
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to work interdependently and independently;
- Working knowledge of and ability to:
- Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
- Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
