Job Summary:



Nature of Work:

The School of Medicine Office of the Dean is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Business & Data Analytics Manager to guide our analytics and drive data-driven decision-making across the school and campus. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of business processes, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of leveraging data to inform and guide business strategy. This management role requires a combination of technical expertise, business acumen, strategy planning capabilities, and strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate possesses expert-level business and financial acumen and has practical experience in fund accounting and financial analysis. This experience will serve as the basis for guiding the financial planning and analytics (FP&A) of the Office of the Dean and drive data-based decision-making. Curated data, and future data points - yet to be identified - to enhance business and financial operations across the School of Medicine in partnership with Sr. Leaders within the School of Medicine Dean's Office. This role will work closely with our IT partners within the School of Medicine and the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Supervision Received:

This position reports to the School of Medicine FP&A Program Director.

Supervision Exercised:

This position will supervise the FP&A Team which includes - FP&A Analyst, Report Writer, and Commitment Analyst.

Duties:

General Duties



  • Implement, and maintain advanced analytics systems that simplify complex data problems into actionable insights. Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the school, including communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Compile and analyze complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities, data discrepancies, patterns, and areas for improvement. Guide the collection, and collation, and ensure accuracy of data and timely submission of all School of Medicine survey submissions and deliverables.
  • Partner with units to collect, gather, and analyze data, enabling the insights to guide strategic decisions, affiliate partners related to financial processes, analysis, and reporting cross-functional teams, including finance, HR, operations, and IT and other Dean's Office Units, to understand business requirements and ensure analytics reporting and solutions align with business needs.
  • Partner with the BI/Development team to utilize advanced data modeling, predictive modeling, and analytical techniques to interpret key findings from business data and translate these insights into proposals/plans that will support school and campus initiatives and outcomes.
  • Partner with SOM-IT Application Development & Business Intelligence teams to develop and maintain reporting, dissemination, data automation systems, dashboards, and performance metrics. Develop a keen understanding of exception reporting needs and work with the SOM-IT Application Development & Business Intelligence teams to develop action-oriented distribution.
  • Partner with appropriate internal contacts to ensure data security and compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Conduct forecasting (short & long-term), variance analysis, long-range strategic financial planning, and space plans/allocations. Present information using data visualization techniques and prepare reports, recommendations, or alternatives to address existing and potential trouble areas within the School of Medicine Dean's Office initiatives across the School of Medicine.

Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 4 days per week on campus can be negotiated with the hiring manager.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, information systems, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience using a variety of analytics techniques to contribute to an organization's strategic initiatives, projects, and business outcomes through mining, evaluating, and visualizing data.*
  • Two (2) years of experience in managing and guiding data analytics or similar personnel.*


*Experience may be obtained simultaneously.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree and experience requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree or MBA in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in business analytics, data analysis, and business intelligence.
  • Experience working with databases and dashboards using all relevant business data to inform decisions.
  • Experience with technical writing, including queries, reports, and data presentations.
  • Strong background in statistics, data analysis, and business forecasting.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a proactive approach to analyzing data and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Strong proficiency in database management and Excel, with the ability to learn and use additional analytics tools as needed.
  • Ability to interpret and transform raw data into meaningful insights that drive business performance.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, data mining, and data warehousing.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders.

  • Ability to provide strategic project management in coordinating and organizing resources, establishing priorities, and ensuring the project is completed satisfactorily and in a timely manner.
  • Advanced proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Strong database skills and ability to perform effective querying involving multiple tables and subqueries.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $82,933 to $111,130.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
