JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking an entry-level, Manufacturing Technology Engineer to join our Electro-Optics & Electronics (EOE) Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University, located in Freeport PA. The purpose of Penn State ARL is to develop innovative solutions to challenging problems in support of the Navy, Department of Defense (DoD), and intelligence communities. You will join a team of scientists and engineers performing a wide range of applied research and development projects involving electro-optical, electro-mechanical and electronic manufacturing technology.

You will:

  • Apply basic knowledge of electro-optical, electronic, mechanical and engineering science principals
  • Perform research and development tasks in manufacturing technology engineering
  • Plan and manage project tasks to achieve research contract goals
  • Collaborate with other engineers, scientists including faculty at Penn State, DoD laboratories, DoD program offices and related industry technical teams to accomplish project and organizational goals
  • Document your work in technical reports and present your work to a variety of audiences

This position can be filled at multiple levels depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors; degree in an engineering or science discipline. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions. A Masters' degree is preferred.

Additional responsibilities of higher level positions include:

  • Excellent organization, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a project team
  • Assist in new concept development and development of project plans for new projects with internal and external stakeholders by identifying issues and solutions
  • Assist in project/task execution analyzing alternatives and applying engineering and project management techniques and procedures
Required skills/experience includes:
  • 3D modeling software
  • CNC programming
  • PID control and theory
  • Robotic motion and control
  • Understanding of electro-optic, electronics and automation manufacturing technologies
  • Ability to clearly communicate, document, and present results
  • Able work independently, as part of a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing requirements

Preferred skills and experience includes:

  • Experience in electro-optics, robotics/automation, or electronics manufacturing
  • Experience with motion control and tool path generation for CNC machine tools.
  • A thorough understanding of electro-optics and electronics manufacturing technologies with the ability to recognize areas of manufacturing need and evaluate potential solutions
  • Hands on experience developing electro-optics or electronic/mechanical systems
  • Experience with project management and accompanying processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, speaking with ease to very senior and large audiences
  • An active Secret security clearance with eligibility for TS/SCI is highly desirable

**The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.**

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $129,500.00
