Summary
Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions -Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures. -Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines. -Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed. -Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results. -Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods. -Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports. Education POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Assistant will support a multifaceted research initiative focused on advancing laryngology and laryngeal surgery through patient outcome studies, quality improvement initiatives, intraoperative data collection, and processing of laryngoscopy scope videos. This role involves gathering, processing, and analyzing clinical video, audio, imaging, patient-reported outcome datasets, and operative data. Additionally, the assistant will contribute to research publications and participate in operating room data collection for select laryngology cases. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Public Health, Hospital Management, Neuroscience, Speech-Language Pathology, Medicine or related discipline). * Experience with data analysis, statistical software, or programming (Python, MATLAB, R) is preferred but not required. Applicants with machine learning / AI background preferred but not required. * Familiarity with laryngology, voice science, medical imaging, or intraoperative data collection is a plus. * Strong analytical, writing, and problem-solving skills. WORKING CONDITIONS: * Potential exposure to clinical and surgical environments. * Work may involve patient interactions and data collection in the clinic and operating room. * May require prolonged periods of data analysis and writing. * Partial remote option is available. Certain job functions require being present in-person at Mass Eye and Ear. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less for data entry and analysis. * Some lifting and carrying of research equipment or files may be required (up to 50 lbs).
