THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is on the lookout for a Maintenance Repairman 1 to join their team at Ohiopyle State Park. This position involves performing manual and semi-skilled tasks across various maintenance disciplines, contributing to the upkeep and repair of park facilities and equipment. The role encompasses sub-journey level responsibilities in multiple trades, ensuring that the park remains in excellent condition for visitors and wildlife alike.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves executing tasks associated with Maintenance Repairman 1 or providing support to a more experienced technician, utilizing expertise in various trades such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, mechanical repairs, and welding. The individual is responsible for conducting repairs and maintenance on a diverse range of assets, including vehicles, machinery, buildings, bridges, and equipment within Ohiopyle State Park. The position entails performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, and repairing smaller equipment like trim mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, generators, air compressors, power augers, and pumps.

In addition to equipment maintenance, the role includes maintaining turf areas and trails through grass cutting and other landscaping tasks, employing tools such as mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, wheelbarrows, and hand tools. The individual is also tasked with operating chainsaws to remove hazardous trees, trim overhanging branches, and clear brush from hiking trails as necessary. Furthermore, the position requires the operation of a truck and trailer combination to transport tractors, mowers, boats, and other equipment to remote locations and other parks or repair facilities as needed.

Janitorial responsibilities are also part of the job, which includes cleaning public restrooms and showers, maintaining camping cottages and yurts, and ensuring the upkeep of other park buildings as directed by a supervisor. The individual may assist in the operation and maintenance of the Sewage Treatment and Water Treatment Plants under the guidance of a certified operator. Identifying necessary repair parts, materials, and supplies is crucial, as is maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs for vehicles and equipment. The role also involves managing oil and gas inventories and dispensing these resources to visiting Commonwealth officials when required.

Additionally, the individual may serve as a lead worker for semi-skilled laborers during the execution of assigned tasks. Operating equipment in the shop or field for repairs, testing, and facilitating efficient operations is a key responsibility. The individual is expected to provide instruction to employees on proper preventive maintenance and operational procedures for various vehicles and equipment as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits. The season runs from March through November.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
