Lead Substation Technician

Summary

Responsible for leading and supervising GP&L construction technicians, contract laborers, inspection of general contractors and subcontractors in the construction, modification and maintenance of substations.

Pay Range: (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and supervise construction technicians and contract laborers to complete the construction and modifications of new and existing substations.

  • Perform detail reporting and documentation on construction and maintenance projects.

  • Operate various equipment associated with substation construction and maintenance.

  • Prepare and excavate substation construction sites.

  • Drill and form concrete foundations.

  • Interpret construction blueprints.

  • Coordinate with design engineers any changes or questions on construction plans.

  • Coordinate and work with other departments for a safe and efficient construction schedule.

  • Coordinate and work with crew personnel on work tasks and activities including utilization of equipment.

  • Determine and plan work schedules for individual tasks to meet project completion date.

  • Manage work tasks and activities to meet overall project completion date.

  • Lead and perform in coordination with crew members general substation maintenance and repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 months advanced study or training past the high school equivalency

  • 6 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 6 months to 1-year advanced study or training in construction safety, equipment handling or similar field of study

  • 6-8 years experience in construction safety and equipment handling

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

  • Skill in utilizing various equipment and tools associated with substation construction and maintenance

  • Skill in concrete placement

  • Skill in support steel erection

  • Skill in rigid bus installation

  • Skill in functional testing

  • Skill interpreting diagrams, construction detail drawings and oneline diagrams

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid CDL Class A Texas driver's license

  • Substation Technician Certification
