Summary Responsible for technician training, completing construction and modifying substations. Also, responsible for participating in the installation, testing, maintenance, operation, modification of the electric transmission and distribution substation Fiber Optic WAN/LAN and communications Cabling, Fiber Optic multiplexers and equipment. Per request you may be asked to assist with other Electric Substation duties, wiring of equipment, installation of battery systems and DC-AC power systems etc..... Serves as "in-charge" in the absence of the Supervisor or Lead. Pay Range: (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Test, repair and calibrate devices and equipment to complete new substations construction and modifications to existing substations. Perform substation wiring on low voltage power systems, Communications Equipment, Fiber Optic WAN/LAN Networks, etc. Install substation Fiber Optic cabling, Copper cabling routes and update prints. Develop and implement mapping points for the Electric Fiber Optic network. Perform field assessment of new projects and determining technical solutions. Trouble shoot, Locate, Plan and execute the repair of the Fiber Optic or Copper cabling. Ensure proper storage of hard and soft copy test reports for Audit purposes. Supervise and participate in troubleshooting system equipment and devices. Recommend modifications, revisions and improvements in facility procedures and methods. Develop and perform test procedures for new and existing equipment. Work with other GPL departments for their networks needs on the Fiber Optic networks. Troubleshoot Fiber Optic System Damage. Standby Duty and callout assistance after regular working hours. Occasional travel to remote system facilities. Continuation occupational training.
Minimum Qualifications
Six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school level 3 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
1 year of advanced study or training in electronics, safety and maintenance of electric utility equipment 3-5 years experience in maintaining and repairing Cabling and electronic equipment related to the electric utility.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of electric utility equipment Considerable knowledge of maintenance processes and procedures Considerable knowledge of safety precautions and safe work practices under normal and emergency situations Extensive knowledge in OTDR and Power Meter testing and troubleshooting Extensive knowledge in networking and Communication Software Skill in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel Skill in performing substation switching in normal or emergency situations. Skill in operating various Communications cabling, software including Optical Time Domain Reflector (OTDR), Power Meters, Troubleshooting and Communications connectivity.
