What you will do

Johnson Controls invites you to apply for an internship with our federal team supporting our Electronic Security Engineering team supporting U.S. military and federal government sites around the United States (no travel required). Our team is responsible for the access controls, intrusion detection, CCTV cameras and other systems for a wide variety of military bases and federal government sites. This internship is designed to provide you with a positive work/training experience and challenging objectives. This role will support contributions to security system designs, development, and testing of software and network applications. Specific identified internship responsibilities are outlined below.

Timeframe: This internship is targeted for the summer session with the possibility of extension in the fall . Timeframes are flexible, but will likely be between 3-6 months.
Hours: Must be able to work at least 20 hours a week; 40 hours a week is available if applicable with current class schedule.
Location: Huntsville, AL. Must be able to work on-site out of this office for the duration of the internship.

How you will do it:



  • Supports the Engineering team and field based teams with a variety of tasks.
  • Work with experienced engineers to design security systems to customer requirements and project specifications
  • Assists with performing power calculations, storage calculations, and network designs.
  • Assists with read and assisting with writing software code for programming of systems.
  • Assists in preparing project files and reports, customer presentations, and other customer communication documents as needed.
  • Assists in development of customer baselines, benchmarks, and project scheduling reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned



What we look for

Required:



  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at a U.S. college or university
  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, System Administration or a similar field
  • Technical proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft products
  • Currently a Sophomore or higher status as of fall 2023
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • This position services U.S. Government contracts and requires handling of export controlled and other sensitive government data which requires full U.S. citizenship
  • Must be able to work on-site at least 20 hours per week; full-time (40 hours a week) preferred


Preferred:



  • Interest in supporting a career in the electronic security industry
  • Interested in a career in Systems Engineering or Digital Engineering work
  • Prior military experience
