About the role

We are looking for a Production Supervisor to lead and develop a high performing team while fostering a strong safety culture and building capabilities. This includes supervision of all area personnel and accountability of all area resources. The supervisors' main focus is to lead the safe, efficient and sustainable production of refined borates.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to drive and optimize operational performance. Working and reporting to the Superintendent, you will be:

  • Ensuring a productive and safe workplace is maintained, complying with Rio Tinto and Statutory Safety requirements.
  • Identifying areas where improvement to safety performance is necessary and initiating this change within the appropriate teams and areas.
  • Taking ownership over efficient/effective problem solving, decision-making, and action at the right levels.
  • Ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly understood and setting performance targets to encourage the necessary/desired behaviors.
  • Responsible for directing production employees and operations in accordance with the production plan and business needs to achieve quality and quantities of finished goods necessary to meet customer demands.
  • Providing leadership through team building, planning, and setting key deliverables.
  • Interfacing with planners and fellow Supervisors to assist in continual improvement.
  • Ensuring work is completed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and soliciting input from team members.
  • Supervising activities on night shift and weekends.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, combined with solid relevant experience, but more advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in production/refinery operations/maintenance or a related field.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge of MS Office, Excel & SAP
  • Proficiency in English
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card from TSA
  • Beneficial if you have knowledge of refinery equipment, subsystems, lubrication properties and equipment troubleshooting

This role is based in the Port of Los Angeles in the city of Wilmington, California. This historical site is one of the oldest operations in the Port of LA, some employees are third generation workers at this operation.
