Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Building Services provide full maintenance and repair services for all
UNC facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the
UNC mission of teaching, research and public service. Building Services supports more than 300 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University include Campus Maintenance,
EMCS, Facilities Operations Support, Housing Support,
HVAC Systems, Life Safety Services, and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling. Housing Support is an effective team of employees providing maintenance and repair services, including a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments. Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and
HVAC. We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own Housing Support internal shops, Facilities Services Construction Shops, and/or private contractors. We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and Housing staff. Housing Support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities. This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop. |

The Building Services Housing Support Paint Shop is currently recruiting for Summer Painters. This temporary position will last from mid-May through the beginning of August. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (must be available to work entire shift).
This position is responsible for the painting and trim work of residence halls and student apartments on campus during the summer. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Position requires ability to understand and follow work orders, instructions, product directions and other written job materials, and understand verbal instructions. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer candidates with a willingness to learn a new skill and apply it successfully. Excellent team player with the ability to work individually. Have a pro-active and can-do attitude. Some painting experience a plus but not required. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to climb and work from a ladder. Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50lbs. Employees are required to adhere to safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment. Work may require strenuous physical exertion. |
