Job Summary

Ensures the quality of LVN patient care and serves as a role model. Assists staff with escalated issues and reports patients' status and concerns to management or clinicians as needed.

This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency. The LVN Supervisor functions in the outpatient clinical setting at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, join UCSF Health partnerships, Satellite clinics, or with UCSF Faculty at other off-site clinic sites, et al).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $92,400 - $138,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Bayfront specialty clinics cover a variety of specialty clinics. Current clinic coverage (subject to change with clinic availability and staffing) are OHNS, Urology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, and Neurology. A full scope of clinical services is provided, which include preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic care.

Patient needs vary from low to high complexity, depending on presenting signs and symptoms. Any patient presenting with an emergency medical condition is screened by a physician and provided with stabilizing treatment until the patient can be safely transported to the Emergency Department. The use of anesthesia, for other than local infiltrations, is prohibited. Patients may receive IV therapy in an emergency while awaiting transport to the hospital.

Required Qualifications


  • Two-plus years of LVN experience
  • Graduation from an approved LVN program
  • Experience in Urology or OHNS
  • Leadership experience
  • Clinical knowledge to effectively supervise LVNs and MA's. Skills to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic, center or practice
  • Strong knowledge of LVN patient care standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and apply effective solutions
  • Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff.
  • Skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments

Preferred Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

License/Certification


  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
