What you will do:

Prepare GAAP and SEC-compliant financial reports and disclosures for external audiences, including shareholders, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and investment analysts. Lead the annual audits for the Company's employee benefit plans.

How you will do it:

  • Assists with the preparation of the 10-K, 10-Q, earnings release, and other financials.

  • Coordinates with various global Business Unit personnel and corporate departments to ensure receipt of timely and accurate financial and nonfinancial information which is used in the preparation of the Company's financial statements.

  • Leads the Company's annual employee benefit plan audits, including all defined contribution, defined benefit, health and welfare, and master trust plans. Responsibilities include communicating with HR and external auditors, preparing or reviewing annual financial statements and related footnotes, and accumulating benefit plan data, including actuarial reports, trustee statements, third party confirmations.

  • Prepares special reports and analyses, and assists with special projects as needed.

  • Provides internal and external auditors with information required to perform annual audits and quarterly reviews.

  • Assists with monthly accounting procedures which may be related to derivatives, pensions and/or equity.

  • Partners with various departments, including JCI Business Unit Accounting teams around the world, HR and Benefits, Corporate Treasury, Investor Relations, FP&A, and Corporate Consolidations.

  • Mentors junior team members including interns and/or employees that are part of JCI's rotational program

  • Ensures proper documentation of and compliance with the Company's internal control procedures.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA certification desired, but not required

  • Minimum three+ years of relevant experience, preferably with a public accounting firm and/or experience with large, global publicly traded companies

  • Proven understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting, preferably including the accounting and reporting of employee benefit plans

  • Detail-oriented and dedication to, and understanding of, the importance of reporting accurate figures.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to build professional relationships with individuals at all levels across the organization

  • Ability to solve problems and see opportunities for operational improvement and a drive to achieve both short and long-term results

  • A strong desire to learn and grow personally and professionally

  • Computer proficiency, including familiarity with a variety of software applications

This will be a hybrid role based in the Glendale, WI office.
