Job Title: Product Security Engineering Intern

Introduction:

The Product Security Engineering Intern will support the development and security of custom software solutions for some of the world's largest retailers. As an Intern, you will work as a member of the Toshiba Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT), assisting in securing applications, automating security processes, and integrating security tools into existing workflows. This role provides hands-on experience in application security testing, security tooling, and vulnerability management, offering an opportunity to develop essential cybersecurity and software security skills in a real-world enterprise environment.


Required Skills:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and trends.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English.


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity methodologies, standards, and tools.
  • Familiarity with security testing tools, including SAST, DAST, and SCA.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and vulnerability management.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices and security automation.


Responsibilities:

  • Security Process Automation & Tool Integration:
    • Automate repeatable security processes to enhance efficiency.
    • Integrate security tools with centralized security issue management systems.
    • Implement and maintain Product Security tooling to support security assessments.
  • Security Testing & Analysis:
    • Assist in security architecture reviews and document security issues.
    • Conduct security testing using tools like:
    • Software Composition Analysis (SCA) - Scan for vulnerabilities in open-source components.
    • Static Application Security Testing (SAST) - Analyze source code for security flaws.
    • Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) - Perform automated vulnerability assessments for web applications.
    • Vulnerability Scanners - Detect security flaws in networks, systems, and applications.
    • Monitor and assist in the resolution of existing security tickets.
  • Research & Documentation:
    • Research cybersecurity topics, tools, techniques, and threats to stay updated on evolving security trends.
    • Document information security processes and contribute to security best practices.
    • Evaluate security reports for completeness and assist in pre-triaging security submissions.
  • Access Control & Compliance:
    • Conduct periodic access control inventories and assessments.
    • Ensure security compliance by adhering to best practices and standards.
  • Agile Development & Product Security:
    • Participate in Agile development teams, collaborating with software developers and security architects.
    • Contribute to the design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of security-related features.
    • Learn about Toshiba product offerings, their security implications, and the lifecycle of product development from idea to deployment.
