Job Summary

The Anna Molofsky Lab at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking a motivated candidate for a full-time research assistant/technician position in zebrafish neurobiology research. The technician position will be divided approximately equally between basic research and animal colony management. Most of the technician's time will be devoted to bench research. This research may be scientific support for an ongoing project in the lab, in collaboration with other lab members, or may include an independent research project depending on the employee's level of interest and skillset. The research project will mainly focus on neuroimmune mediators of brain development in zebrafish models. The technician will primarily work with zebrafish, but may additionally gain exposure to mouse and cell culture models, which are also employed in the lab. The research project may include a range of techniques such as confocal, two-photon, and light-sheet microscopy of live zebrafish, molecular biology (PCR, quantitative PCR, RNA extraction), bioinformatics, and behavior. Management duties will primarily include zebrafish colony management (fish handling, fin biopsy, genotyping, documentation). Our lab is committed to thoughtful mentorship for our technicians, and this position is an excellent way to gain research experience prior to graduate school. Two-year minimum commitment. Start date of July 2025 or earlier.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).
