Benefit Specialist Position Purpose Responsible for administering and managing employee benefits programs such as health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and leave administration. This role ensures compliance with legal regulations, assists employees with benefits enrollment, and assists with resolving issues related to benefits and claims. Benefit Specialist Essential Functions
- Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
- Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., ACA, COBRA, FMLA, ERISA) and maintains accurate records and documentation
- Oversees and manages employee benefits programs, including health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans
- Assists employees with benefits enrollment, answers questions, and resolves issues related to benefits and claims
- Coordinates and facilitates annual benefits open enrollment, including communications and employee training
- Works with insurance providers, retirement plan administrators, and other benefits vendors to manage plans and resolve issues
- Collaborates with payroll to ensure accurate benefits deductions and reporting
- Promotes wellness programs to enhance employee engagement and productivity
- Prepares reports on benefits utilization, costs, and trends to support company decision-making
- Creates reports such as but not limited to new hires, turnover, Affirmative Action Plan,ACA, 1095-C Forms, EEO-1, and VETS-100 Reports
- Participates in developing department goals and objectives, including recruiting and retention, training and development, employee and labor relations, and total rewards
- Prepares documentation for medical and child support orders
- UpdatesPaycom checklists and forms
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
- Ensures consistent and reliable on-site attendance
Benefit Specialist Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field preferred,or five years or more of experience in lieu of degree
- Three (3) years of benefits administration experience is required
- Exceptional Interpersonal skills and excellentcommunication skills
- Adept at organizing, planning, and completing tasks to manage a high volume of department paperwork
- Proven knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and various web-based applications
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn Paycom HRIS andHireology ATS
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification a plus
Benefit Specialist Physical Requirements
- Lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds without assistance
- The ability to sit/stand for long periods or drive long distances
- Ability to work with others, face-to-face, by phone, or video conference, or work independently
