Position Overview

Pantheon Data is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Staff Writer to join our dynamic communications team. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience in writing and editing diverse communication materials, conducting interviews, and supporting various media and public relations efforts.

The Senior Staff Writer supports the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Office of Corporate Communication (SEA 00D) by writing feature and straight news writing products as well as editorial support to the NAVSEA workforce.

NAVSEA SEA 00D supports the Command mission of designing, building, delivering and sustaining the U.S. Navy's ships, submarines and systems through its strategic communications efforts. Representing more than 86,000 employees geographically dispersed across more than 40 locations worldwide, SEA 00D is responsible for providing the strategic guidance, planning and execution support for all enterprise-wide internal and external communication, including marketing requirements and legislative engagement. In this capacity, the office provides direct support and strategic advisement to the Commander on all communication matters.

Responsibilities



  • Develop communications products including leadership communications to the workforce, employee profiles, newsletter content, general interest email communications to the workforce.
  • Write various communications for the workforce, directives, instructions, memorandums, etc. in support of NAVSEA Command Leadership.
  • Prepare long-form articles and related communication products for enterprise-wide dissemination, coordinating with all applicable stakeholders.
  • Assist with execution of Command surveys and perform data analysis.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Command-wide engagements (e.g. Town Halls, All Hands, etc.) and events.
  • Manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high-level of attention to detail.
  • Consult with appropriate subject matter experts to ensure information is presented accurately.
  • Experience in communication strategies and materials that support and promote engagement with internal and external stakeholders.


Required Skills and Experience



  • Ten (10) years related experience in communications with focus on defense acquisition or other federal appropriation / authorization matters
  • Experience with NAVSEA, Congress, the Navy and Department of Defense.
  • Clear understanding and application of Navy and Associated Press Style guidance in all writing and editing oversight.
  • Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web based, and hard copy material.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.


Education

Bachelor's degree in English or Communications.

Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location: Washington Navy Yard; Onsite 5 days per week

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
