Environmental Engineering Trainee

The Department of Environmental Protection is on the lookout for candidates to fill the role of Environmental Engineering Trainee. In this capacity, the individual will engage in sanitary engineering tasks while working under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer. The trainee will be tasked with reviewing and analyzing both technical and non-technical engineering data related to the enforcement of Safe Drinking Water regulations, specifically concerning the construction, modification, and operation of Public Water Systems (PWS). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital public health initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in the field of environmental engineering.

In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating information and identifying the relevant regulatory and policy frameworks applicable to particular technical and compliance challenges. You will offer guidance to your supervisor on engineering matters concerning the design, construction, and funding of drinking water systems. Additionally, you will assess applications for public water system permits as well as Non-Community Public Water System Applications. Your expertise will also extend to providing technical support and engineering advice regarding permitting and design specifications. Occasional travel to regulated public water system sites, field locations, and training sessions for staff will be required as part of your duties.

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

• This position requires possession of a valid Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.
