Job Highlights

The Applications Intern will support the LANXESS R&D Department by performing laboratory research in the formulation areas of personal care, home care, food & beverage, industrial & institutional, fragrance, and more. Duties include exploration of product applications, preparation of formulas, determination of product quality, and performance testing of formulations and chemistries. Intern will operate various laboratory equipment, document lab results, complete data entry, and prepare presentations and reports.

In addition, this position will:

  • Provide support for R&D staff with the set up, operation and documentation of research projects.
  • Formulate various materials to customer or internal specifications for evaluation.
  • Do laboratory work evaluating various properties and effectiveness of personal care, home care, industrial, and other applications as required.
  • Operate testing equipment safely, accurately and efficiently.
  • Organize and perform data entry of analytical results and create appropriate technical reports and/or presentations as required.
  • Present project status, updates and results to the R&D team as well as the LANXESS R&D leadership.
  • Perform laboratory cleanup of equipment, glassware, sample bottles and work areas. Maintain a neat and safe work area, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any tasks or other reasonable duties as requested by the company
Requirements
  • Completion of Junior year in a B.S. program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science as minimum. Bachelor's degree in chemistry or science-related field is preferred.
  • Completion one year of college level Organic Chemistry.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of chemical interactions and hazards.
  • Ability to work with and around various laboratory chemicals safely.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills for data entry, data evaluation, report development, and file organization.
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills.

  • Compensation: We offer competitive compensation packages, inclusive of a global bonus program and an individual performance bonus program.In accordance with Washington state requirements, minimumpay for this position is $23.10 per hour and may be higher depending on degree program and year in school. Please note that interns are not eligible for our benefits and time off plans due to the temporary nature of the position.
