We are seeking a highly motivated temporary employee to join the Vegetable & Herbaceous Ornamentals Plant Pathology Extension program at the Mountain Research Station. This position is expected to commit to work from May or early June through September with potential for extended employment based on candidate's performance and funding availability.
Under general supervision of the principal investigator, the technician is expected to provide technical support to extension and applied research aimed at understanding pathogens responsible for diseases of horticultural crops, primarily vegetables, including laboratory, field, and greenhouse research. Laboratory responsibilities include, but are not limited to, isolation of plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi from tissue, preparation of growth media, preparation of chemicals and/or inoculum for lab or field use, maintenance of culture collection, the preparation of complex growth media, and using molecular techniques involving
DNA. Field responsibilities will consist of assisting the P.I. and other lab personnel in the preparation and maintenance of field trials including marking plots, planting, inoculating plants with pathogenic fungi and bacteria, applying pesticides, rating for disease, harvesting fruit, etc. Data entry and collection is also expected. Providing assistance with cleaning and organizing laboratory facilities to maintain a clean and orderly working environment and to be in compliance with health and safety regulations is expected. Some weekend work may be necessary, but
VERY seldom.
The technician will be expected to drive a state truck to research stations and/or growers' fields or other areas of work.

- Coursework leading to a Bachelor's Degree
- More than one year experience in an applied research or extension plant pathology, horticulture, entomology or related field
- Experience working with culturing fungi and oomycetes
