The Supervisor Crude Oil Accounting, is responsible for operational and financial accounting, analysis of results, settlement of commodity transactions, and adherence of policies and procedures in the Tidal USA - Crude Oil Accounting Department.

Tidal Energy Marketing is comprised of 4 business units: Tidal Canada - Oil & NGLs, Tidal Canada - Natural Gas, Tidal Canada Power, and Tidal US - Oil. Each business unit is responsible for the BU's back office functions which involve accounting, settlements, reporting and financial controls.

What You Will Do: Leadership
  • Lead a team of 4 direct reports
  • Train and develop team, as well as advise staff on non-routine transactions
  • Supervise month-end reporting activities and monthly commodity settlements cycle
  • Develop effective and efficient solutions as the business evolves and grows
Accounting
  • Ensure timely settlement of commodity (crude oil) transactions, including tolls, and broker invoices.
  • Analyze and account for realized derivatives, normalization adjustments for realized derivatives and inventory lower of cost or net realizable value.
  • Ensure accuracy of inter-company accounting
Reporting
  • Develop and maintain operational and financial reporting processes
  • Detailed analytical support to Front Office/Traders
  • Analysis to Corporate Financial Reporting, and external Auditors
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the earnings forecasting and budget process.
Who You Are: Required:
  • University degree in a related financial discipline (accounting, finance or financial risk management).
  • Professional accounting designation or equivalent.
  • 7 or more years of progressive working experience in a financial environment.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical abilities and willingness to learn and grow in new areas.
  • Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial focus with experience in commodity trading environment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and execute projects aimed at enhancing financial and system processes.
  • Working knowledge of financial reporting, oil marketing, and risk systems would be considered an asset (Oracle/Egistix/OpenLink)

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
