IEM is seeking candidates for an entry-level Full-Time- Communications Assistant to join our Communications Team.

Primary Location:

  • Candidate must live a commutable distance to Raleigh, NC.
  • Position will be a Remote and In Office role making it a Hybrid work schedule.
  • In office days will be based on business needs and could range between 1 - 5 days a week.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may require travel to complete work assignments or attend meetings.

Essential Functions:

  • Gather information for publications and marketing materials.
  • Support content creation and writing for IEM's social media, website, and other marketing tools.
  • Research, draft, and create news releases, feature articles, editorials, web-based, and other content on IEM's personnel and activities.
  • Assists with the creation and presentation of various marketing materials.
  • Monitors the Corporate Communications email accounts daily and routes emails to appropriate team members.
  • Assists with content creation and edits PowerPoint presentations for speaking engagements as needed.
  • Develops daily media monitoring reports and assist with internal and external newsletter content.
  • Assists with internal communications, focusing on transparency and timeliness, including preparing messages from corporate members for company-wide dissemination.
  • Assists with the production of webinars and podcasts as needed.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings and maintain timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and adjust schedules proactively to accommodate last-minute changes or urgent priorities.
  • Proactive maintenance of external and internal messaging requiring updates.
  • Performs other special projects or duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related field.
  • One year's work experience in marketing, communications, media relations, journalism, and/or strategic corporate communications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written and oral communications skills.
  • Basic understanding of public relations, communications, and marketing concepts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and Canva.
  • Ability to write and edit clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to produce content in both feature-writing and short formats.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with multiple competing demands.
  • Proven ability to research facts and outline key issues for stories.
  • Detail oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding and/or experience in emergency management, disaster recovery, or homeland security is a plus.

Additional Location and Travel Information:

  • All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.
