THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a skilled Welder to join their team. This role involves a diverse range of independent trade tasks, including the repair of components and structural welding for our equipment fleet. The successful candidate will also be responsible for fixing equipment frames, spreaders, and plows, as well as fabricating repair and body parts for various applications. Proficiency in using acetylene, arc, tungsten inert gas (TIG), metal inert gas (MIG), and similar welding equipment to join metals is essential. Do not miss the chance to apply today!




DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Welder for PennDOT in Fayette County, you will handle welding repairs and fabrication, including welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals using MIG and TIG methods. Your tasks will involve laying out materials, fabricating parts, and repairing metal structures. These structures could include, but are not limited to, truck and automobile bodies, engine, and trailer parts. You will also demonstrate welding techniques to other staff. Your work will be performed independently and checked for adherence to quality and timeliness standards. You will maintain a safe workplace by following safety protocols and using the right gear. You must stay aware of your surroundings, keep your work area organized, and immediately report any accidents or injuries.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
