DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of programs and activities related to environmental education, recreation, and interpretation. These programs will emphasize local natural history, historical and cultural events, and environmental management topics for a diverse audience, including forest visitors, students, youth groups, special populations, and civic organizations. Furthermore, you will lead these initiatives by organizing educational activities, audiovisual presentations, workshops for teachers and staff, and various other environmental learning programs within the Forbes Forest District.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime during fire season and association with programs outside the regular shift
  • Travel may include daily use of the state vehicle, trainings, and meetings
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Laughlintown.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
