THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is on the lookout for a Permanent Maintenance Repairman 2 to join the team at Parker Dam State Park. This role involves performing skilled journey-level tasks across various trades, focusing on the maintenance, repair, and construction of park buildings, facilities, and equipment. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to ensure that the park's infrastructure remains in excellent condition, contributing to the overall enjoyment and safety of visitors.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will engage in advanced skilled work across various trades, including building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, and masonry, focusing on the construction, maintenance, and repair of park facilities and equipment. Under the guidance of a supervisor, you will liaise with vendors to gather price quotes, assess the costs of materials and equipment, estimate the labor hours needed for tasks, and prepare necessary documentation for supervisor review and approval. Additionally, you will take on a leadership role, guiding semi-skilled laborers, laborers, and other team members throughout project execution.
In the carpentry aspect of the position, you will employ both hand and power tools to carry out rough and finish carpentry tasks related to the maintenance, renovation, and construction of park facilities. This includes interpreting blueprints, sketches, and diagrams, as well as repairing or installing various elements such as floor coverings, doors, locks, screens, roofs, soffits, fascia, spouting, windows, and decks. You will also be responsible for planning, designing, and constructing wooden projects, including storage cabinets and shelving.
In plumbing, your responsibilities will encompass repairs, renovations, and new installations within the plumbing systems of all facilities. This includes unblocking drains, fixing leaking faucets, fountains, showers, urinals, and toilets, as well as replacing hot water tanks and installing or repairing sewage and water lines. You will also handle the maintenance of submersible water well pumps and lift station pumps, and prepare pipes for winter by draining them.
In masonry, you will undertake both new construction and maintenance tasks related to buildings, bridges, foundations, walkways, and walls. This involves constructing forms for cement work, mixing cement and plaster, and finishing cement with masonry tools. You will also be responsible for pouring footers, floors, walls, and sign bases, as well as laying concrete blocks and stones for various structures, including walls and fireplaces.
In the mechanical domain, you will conduct preventative maintenance and perform inspections on vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure their safe operation.
In the electrical component of the role, you will carry out installations and repairs related to electrical systems, including new construction fuses, circuit panels, power panels, and cords. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment; 37.5 hour work week.
- Shifts and schedules may vary based on the needs of our 7-day-a-week facility, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Rotating weekends worked throughout winter season (mid November to mid March)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title
