About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking an Ecological Restoration Team Lead who can contribute to the growth of our ecological restoration practice and support ecological restoration projects throughout the Southwest. The position will help grow the restoration program, with a focus on building out a project management team that can lead restoration projects and foster collaboration of a dynamic, interdisciplinary group while supporting and leading proposal efforts.

We are looking for someone interested in developing a long-term consulting career that combines technical expertise with commercial acumen and leadership. SWCA's team lead positions are typically an important stepping-stone for senior management positions.

This is a regular (with benefits), full-time, salaried position, reporting to the Nevada Principal Ecological Restoration Team Lead. This position can be hybrid-based and report to any of our Arizona or Nevada office locations. Highly qualified remote-based candidates will also be considered.

What you will accomplish

  • Support proposal efforts for large or strategic ecological restoration, reclamation, and vegetation management opportunities. Lead small to medium-sized proposal efforts.
  • Directly manage or serve as technical lead on projects throughout the project management life cycle, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget. Also serve as an APM or task lead for large projects.
  • Support development of project management systems for tracking and managing staffing environmental compliance, data management, reporting milestones, team tasks, and group action items.
  • Develop solutions that will foster communication and integration across interdisciplinary teams including internal staff (from multiple departments), clients, construction contractors, agencies, and other stakeholders to keep projects moving forward.
  • Provide SME support and grow as a technical expert, ensuring professional and technical excellence, and quality through project staffing and QA/QC assignments.
  • Promote culture of accountability, budget and cost control on at the project level.
  • Drive compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Provide highly effective, dynamic management and leadership to the program and its staff, including direct supervision of 2-4 staff.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, safety, scientific and professional ethics, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage staff resources to ensure personnel have balanced workloads and adequate resources to perform their jobs.
  • Work closely with SWCA's managers and directors in resource and support departments throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence with the company's mission, vision, and values.
  • Drives compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental discipline, such as: environmental studies, environmental science, biology, ecology.
  • Eight (8) years of project work related to ecological restoration services and/or related services, including (but not limited to) wildlife surveys or monitoring, vegetation monitoring and surveys, natural resources project management, environmental planning or permitting, and/or a combination of educational industry experience.
  • Three (3) years' consulting experience supporting projects as a project manager, assistant project manager, or task lead role.
  • Demonstrated performance and achievement in supporting business development, including success in proposal writing and securing contracts with new or existing clients.
  • Experience with the full developmental life cycle of projects through baseline data collection, permitting/NEPA, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction tasks.
  • Experience managing staff either as a supervisor or as a project manager.
  • Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior project management experience (including management of interdisciplinary projects or tasks) and expertise in two or more of the following areas: restoration projects (may include planning, implementation, or monitoring), botanical and other biological surveys and reporting, invasive species management, and environmental compliance for public and private clients.

An employee in this Nevada or Arizona-based position can expect an annual salary of $80,876.00 - $106,050.00. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
