JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Harrisburg is searching for a full time Mechanic A, Carpentry, Electrical, and Plumbing to join their team. Duties included:

  • Perform daily inspection of assigned area of campus to check for unusual or emergency conditions; report maintenance needs to supervisor
  • Tear down ordinary units; localize trouble; determine extent of repair necessary; repair or replace defective parts of wiring and reassemble
  • Perform a variety of interior and exterior carpentry work such as partitions, cabinet work, paneling, doors, furniture, equipment, trim, floors, windows, etc.
  • Fabricate and install book cases, benches, shelving, cabinetry, and laboratory equipment including tops, cabinets, shelving, hoods, etc.; fabricate various items of wood
  • Repair or rebuild residence hall furniture such as desks, dressers, clothes, closets, cabinets, etc.
  • Repair residence hall, classroom, laboratory, office doors; fit and hang new doors; install, repair, rebuild door closers, locks, window hardware; install and repair hinges, latches, panic hardware, handles, glass, window closers, etc.
  • Set up and operate bench saw, planer, drill press, sander, power hand saw, and a variety of other power and hand tools
  • Repair various roof structures; spread mastic and gravel, seal and caulk flat roofs; repair, replace rafters and sheeting; lay tar paper and shingles
  • Construct small structures such as buildings, shelters, sheds, using wood, metal, compositions, or concrete forms. Install acoustic ceiling tile including suspended, splined, stapled, and adhesed; install floor tile
  • Paint, stain, varnish interior and exterior furniture and structures. Install new lighting and other electrical circuits in offices, classrooms, and various other areas; install and wire equipment such as motors, lighting, panels, etc.; maintain electrical equipment; remove, replace or make repairs to electrical switches, replays, coils, motors, light fixtures, street lighting, etc.
  • Perform plumbing work in laboratories, dining halls, residence halls, and other campus facilities to repair and install various types of equipment to plumbing services
  • Fabricate, repair, install various metal equipment and structures; weld and braze metal parts for fabrication or repair
  • Perform a variety of masonry work such as flagstone/slate walkways, walls, block-laying, ceramic tile, concrete pouring and finishing, etc.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications; estimate materials and labor required; set up and plan work in proper sequence
  • Maintain, lubricate, clean shop equipment; occasionally tear-down, replace bearings, belts, guards, etc.; sharpen cutting tools as required
  • Answer questions for and direct the work of full-time or part-time employees when assigned to assist in duties
  • Operate University vehicles and equipment; remove snow from walkways, roadways, stairways, and entrance ways using hand and power equipment; spread anti-skid and melting materials
  • Maintain and repair floor maintenance machines, vacuum cleaners, powered hand tools, etc.
  • Inspect, repair, recharge fire extinguishers; test and maintain fire alarm systems and emergency lighting systems
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform necessary repairs

Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. 2 to 3 years of effective experience.

Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off:Saturday, Sunday
