Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Battery Engineer to characterize and improve the degradation performance of our batteries for the Gen 1 Product. As part of the Cell Degradation team, reporting into the Cell Package Development team within our Electrochemical Performance group, you'll work closely with Component Development, Product, and Controls teams. Your work will build understanding around failure mechanisms, derisk degradation performance, and, ultimately, help deploy Form Energy's innovative product. This role requires hands-on work in the lab, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to have a direct, daily impact on the development of a unique battery technology designed to tackle climate change. What you'll do:
  • Specify, execute, and interpret experiments to quantify electrochemical performance, design cell packages, and bridge the gap between sub-scale and full-scale testing

  • Develop accelerated testing methods to expedite learnings

  • Support electrochemical testing by writing test protocols, troubleshooting and resolving failures, and maintaining cells on test

  • Wrangle data from test stands and electrochemical cells to enable data-based decision making and provide regular data updates to technical development team

  • Champion for safety, especially in the development of end-of-life teardown procedures

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field

  • 0-3 years of experience in battery testing electrochemical systems, or a related field

  • Proficiency with scripting languages and/or statistical software (Python/JMP a plus)

  • High attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills

  • A growth mindset to pair with a preference for experiential learning
