Transportation Coordinator

Join our team as a Transportation Coordinator! The Transportation Coordinator position is responsible for day-to-day logistics functions and is critical to servicing our customers effectively while building relationships with external carriers. Ensures all loads are being tracked and booked efficiently and is the first line of defense by ensuring carriers have all pickup information and arrive to the shipper or receiver in a timely manner. Ensures the most cost-efficient carrier and mode choices are made based on carrier rates and operator capabilities. Responsible for proposing recommendations to the management team on determining lower cost opportunities. The ideal candidate has the ability to build customer relationships through communication, integrity, and trust and strives for 100% customer satisfaction.

This position requires the flexibility to handle issues outside of work hours to resolve customer issues should they arise.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with internal and external customer, plants, and carriers to understand needs and secure utilization of carrier assets. Ensures all carriers meet tolerance and spec. requirements
• Responsible for the management of accurate inbound & outbound loads, system updates, and orders in TMS for carrier response that supports Worthington inventory goals
• Dispatch carriers to shippers and receivers based on customer needs
• Supervise Load Coordinator's management of shipments involving various Mill and OSP (Outside Sales Processing) sourcing
• Understanding of spot rate negotiations based on current market prices. Ability to analyze freight costs and mode options within high volume lanes, reporting findings to the Manager
• Communication to all involved parties, both internally and externally, to ensure all have been updated on timeliness or issues of a particular delivery/pick up. In some circumstances, acts as single point of contact to end customer
• Actively involved in continuous improvement initiatives and striving towards cost cutting goals each quarter
• Identify expired loads for assigned plants and work to assign load to a cost-effective carrier
• Other duties as assigned
