As part of Detection and Measurement, CUES is the world's leading developer of water, wastewater, and storm water inspection equipment. With CCTV cameras, pre-built vehicles, and software for pipeline inspection and rehabilitation, we improve the safety and reliability of our water infrastructure systems.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies, tracking metrics, negotiating deals, and managing vendors. You will collaborate with stakeholders, forecast market trends, and ensure clear requirements documentation. Your role involves analyzing costs, mitigating risks, and determining optimal delivery quantities and timings. You should have strong leadership capabilities, negotiation skills, analytical abilities and be proficient in gathering and analyzing data.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Team Management and Leadership:
  • Hires and manages the Purchasing Supervisors, and other staff as needed.
  • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of purchasing agents to ensure effective performance of job duties.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to drive internal and external material and services procurement.
  1. Strategic Purchasing and Vendor Management:
  • Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies.
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
  • Identifying opportunities for improving processes and procedures, especially those related to materials planning and purchasing.
  1. Vendor and Supplier Management:
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Managing supplier relations and negotiating prices and contracts within timelines.
  1. Systems and Industry Engagement:
  • Strong expertise in the use of Microsoft tools, ERP system use, and other document management systems.
  • Attending meetings and trade conferences.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of five to seven years' experience within manufacturing setting
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical procurement concepts and technical drawings
  • Proven working experience as a Procurement or Sourcing professional
  • Significant ERP experience (IFS experience, a plus)
  • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as an ability to "read" the market
  • Skilled use of all Microsoft Office products

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • CPSM Certification is a plus.
  • Project management/multi-discipline experience preferred
  • Extensive experience in contract negotiation and management

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • CPSM Certification

Travel & Working Environment

  • 8:00AM - 5PM Monday - Friday.
  • Must be flexible to work overtime as required.
  • Machine shop, manufacturing, material storage, and office environments.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for training, supplier assessments, etc. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • Requires performing work at a desk and computer; standing and walking throughout manufacturing and office areas for extended periods, handling of hardware under evaluation, set-up and use of metrology and test equipment, and occasionally involves working outside of facility.
  • Occasionally lifting objects up to 40lbs without assistance
