Basic Function

The Global Olefins Process Group in Global Process Engineering provides leadership and technical support to turnarounds, projects, Value Enhancement Program (VEP) initiatives, and operations for all of the Olefins and Hydrocarbons plants in North America and Europe. The Olefins Process Engineering position will provide technical support for the Olefins and Hydrocarbons plants on a global basis. The prime focus of this position will be on the North American plants with responsibilities to recommend and implement strategic opportunities to improve unit performance. The Olefins Process Engineer will also collaborate with unit specialists and other engineers to support process design and implementation of capital and improvement projects. This position could be part of a design team for major capital projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

General:



  • Effectively communicate with Site Management, as well as Senior LYB Management, on capital projects, Technical Network and GPE goals, and site technical opportunities
  • Provide technical leadership on capital projects
  • Provide leadership to Technical Network Sub Teams to meet annual Goal Objectives, including the Relief System Network as a Core Team member
  • Maintain/improve Olefins Excellence models

    • Support/improve process safety management performance
    • Support the Solomon Study gap closure plans for the Olefins plants
    • Support the Olefins Business Group's plans and opportunities
    • Support LYB Net Zero Transition and CO2 Reduction efforts within the olefins technology
    • Support/improve the Global Turnarounds processes and goals


  • Support VEP thru ideation, evaluation, and execution of initiatives within the Wave tool
  • Perform design calculations required to generate process data to check and validate equipment and system performance and provide support / leadership when improvements are needed
  • Consult, assist, and/or lead as necessary on incident investigations, troubleshooting, unit shutdown/decontamination, startup from turnaround, and follow-up actions
  • Effectively interface with groups across the company including site manufacturing and technical groups, other process engineering support groups, project engineering, global turnarounds, and business and engineering management
  • Effectively facilitate teamwork to obtain alignment of organizational goals and gain consensus and support from company personnel
  • Mentor less experienced engineers

Min. Qualifications

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering


Work Experience:



  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible chemical engineering experience within the refining, petrochemical, or chemical process industries. Olefins plant experience is a must.


Languages Fluent in English (written and spoken). Fluency in French or German is a plus.

Other skills:



  • Solid understanding of unit operations and process safety management systems.
  • Solid understanding of relief systems process design and evaluation related to the olefins or petrochemical facilities.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver complex technical reports and presentations.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to devise new approaches to problems encountered and to drive team consensus as part of the Management of Change process.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and ASPEN simulation tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead technical service activities without supervision or review
