Overview

This position is in the Information Technology Department of General Dynamics Electric Boat and reports to the Application Manager. This position works directly with the Turnover Coordinator in the performance of all CR and Upgrade releases. You will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for code through development, test, and production environments. The Release Coordinator Job function works collaboratively with all participants in software development projects and is supportive of developers and testers as they set up their build dev/test environments.

This position also works with IT Management to improve the software engineering processes and practices associated with continuously building, deploying, and updating software and environments.

Roles and Responsibilities

    Manage relationships and coordinate work between IT Vendor(s) and different teams at different locations.
  • Communicate release details and schedules to the business, as required.
  • Continually work toward making improvements in the release process.
  • Assist in Risk Management, assist in the resolution of issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality.
  • Negotiate, plan and coordinate all release activities associated with the Release Approval Cycle.
  • Provide feedback and coordination for the IT CR Process
  • Manage and provide communication to Stakeholders on CR status
  • Define and measure success and failure metrics and monitor change progress
  • Coordinate Change Management efforts with other specialists
  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business GO/NO GO reviews.
  • Document and provide feedback on change control rollbacks.
  • Provide Status updates to requestors.
  • Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans.
  • Overall coordination of IPDE, ERP and Legacy application Patches and Upgrades
  • Coordinate required Code Recompile.
  • Become a member and attend the Turnover Review Board (TRB).
  • Understand the operation of Global Change Activity Request System (GCARS)
  • Coordinate Problem Reports and Resolution Adjudication/Tracking
    • Determines if Vendor or Internal Code issues
    • Assign resource to track issue
    • Document work around and the impacts on Production
  • Provides oversight for Vendor patching and review of documentation associated with Upgrades or Patches.
    • Ensure Change Documentation is disseminated to Development, Deployment group, test group, etc.
    • Assist in documentation of specific Regression Testing Requirement based on the Vendor supplied documentation.


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of previous release and/or project management experience
  • 8+ years of experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development
  • Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle

Preferred:

  • Associates / Bachelors Degree
  • Solid understanding of project management principles preferred
  • Formal training in project management practices preferred
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills


Skills

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • General PC knowledge including Microsoft Office Expert Level knowledge of Excel, and a working knowledge of Access and Microsoft Project
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
