Overview

Come spend your summer in the fast paced, dynamic, legal hub of a multinational insurance company. AmTrust Financial Services, Inc. is the largest private insurance company in the United States and provides property and casualty insurance products and warranty programs worldwide.

The Legal Intern will be in AmTrust's Melville office and will receive hands-on experience working with AmTrust's NY Staff Counsel Offices in personal injury defense. The Legal Intern will work directly with in-house lawyers, paralegals, and support staff and be exposed to the practice of law in a litigation setting.



Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

    Conduct legal research in the area of personal injury defense and provide written and verbal conclusions on defined legal issues.
  • Draft motions, memoranda of law, appellate documents, and other pleadings.
  • Contact clients in order to obtain/follow up for information and/or documents.
  • Assist with other ongoing projects as assigned.

What We'll Do:

  • Offer mentoring opportunities with AmTrust staff counsel.
  • Provide the opportunity to work/interact with managing counsel, staff counsel, and claims adjusters as well as the opportunity to develop your professional network.
  • Exposure of defending matters through a matter management system.
  • Provide exposure to depositions, court appearances and/or trials.


Qualifications

  • Well-organized, detail oriented, and proven ability to prioritize and handle competing demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and legal research skills
  • Exhibit sound judgment, responsibility, creativity, and intellectual curiosity
  • Exercise good decision making, personal integrity, and discretion regarding confidential matters
  • Ability to work in a team or independently with the confidence to identify and raise issues when spotted
  • Entering 3rd year in Fall of 2024 at an accredited Law School
  • Prior internship and/or externship experience working alongside a judge or at a firm is preferred

This role is hybrid out of our Melville, NY law office and is compensated at $25/hour.
