The Director of Embedded Software and Firmware Engineering directs development projects & associated staff to design, develop, test, debug, and implement software and firmware functionality for state-of-the-art RF transmitter systems.


Responsibilities

* Work closely with the Hardware Engineering, Product Engineering and Program Management to develop resource plans and program schedules.
* Integrate best practices, including design-review methodologies, for the development of software and firmware source code.
* Ensure that peer code reviews, use-case testing, debugging, etc. meet company standards.
* Guide team in refining system architecture based on assessment of progress/challenges todate.
* Drive a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
* Responsible for coaching and supporting staff to ensure individual and team success; support in setting goals and objectives to create development plans and oversee performance assessment processes.
* Create functional strategies and specific objectives for the team.
* Develop budgets, policies and procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
* Define and document functional requirements.
* Facilitate cross functional collaboration.
* Foster team engagement and retention.

Qualifications

* BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field with 10 or more years of relevant technical and management experience.
* Extensive experience with firmware and software development toolsets utilized in project tracking, workflow management, build and test automation, continuous integration, quality assurance and software lifecycle management.
* Skilled at translating system level requirements to the firmware and software solution space.
* Understanding of FPGAs, Microcontrollers, User Interface design, and digital communications protocols.

* Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools for software and firmware development (Vivado, ISE, Matlab, Simulink, Active-HDL, Spice).
* Familiarity with code development platforms/environments for software and firmware development (Gitlab/Github, Linux, Python, Perl, VHDL).
* Familiarity with PCB design and layout.
* Experience with RF system design, specifically high power and/or high-speed, time-based communication transmissions.
* A hands-on leader who is willing to dive deep as and when needed.
* Versed at managing teams with remote employees.
* Excellent verbal and written skills to interact with project teams, management and customers.
* Demonstrate high business acumen with ability to analyze complex problems and data, and make high-quality, data-driven decisions.
* Must be US citizen and able to be approved for clearance within one year (per client requirements).
* Some travel will be required.
