Corporate Communications Officer II or III

As a member of RAND's Corporate Communications and Branding team, the Corporate Communications Officer will play a critical role in crafting compelling content and strategies that convey the value of RAND, its impact, and the contributions of its executive leadership.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications and Brand, the Officer will primarily be responsible for writing executive leadership communications and brand content that raise awareness of RAND and its leaders among external policy audiences.

The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative self-starter who possesses a strategic and creative mindset, a demonstrated ability to develop compelling content for institutional and multifaceted brands, write and edit complex content for a variety of audiences and a passion for public policy and RAND's research and mission.

What You'll Do:

Craft Compelling Brand Content: Write high-quality content about RAND, its institutional efforts for a variety of channels, including owned media, corporate publications, and event assets.

Promote RAND's Leaders: Draft executive communications that elevate the profile of RAND leaders, such as keynote speeches, articles, and pitches to external convenings.

Develop Brand Content Strategies: Create and implement strategies that leverage both written and visual tools to enhance brand visibility, values, and voice across all platforms.

Collaborate with Communications Experts: Work with other communications experts on the production and best presentation of RAND content, including on rand.org and in corporate publications.

Drive Brand Management Program: Ensure that institutional brand messaging aligns with the brand's voice and values, maintaining a cohesive and consistent identity across corporate publications, outreach materials, and meeting and event assets.

Qualifications

A bachelor's and/or master's degree in English, Marketing, or Communications.

The successful candidate will

  • Have deep experience in corporate reputation or corporate communications, with a strong focus on clear and compelling brand storytelling about complex topics.

  • Possess exceptional writing, editing, and brand content creation skills, with a portfolio that demonstrates versatility and creativity in both written and visual formats.

  • Have demonstrated ability in creating, editing, or improving briefings and visual materials (brochures, PowerPoint presentations, informational graphics) and the skill to distill complex research into short, compelling narratives.

  • Demonstrate operational adeptness, with an emphasis on collaboration, quality, efficiency, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Manage multiple writing and content projects by taking initiative and collaborating effectively across teams.

  • Possess a passion for connecting audiences through effective brand storytelling and visual communication.

  • Demonstrate ingenuity, creativity, and a willingness to learn and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.

Experienceand Education Requirements

For Corporate Communications Officer II and III

A bachelor's degree in English, marketing, communications or similar and a minimum of 6-8 years' experience is required.

Preferred: 9-10 years' experience; MA/MS

Location

This position will be located at one of the following RAND offices: Arlington, VA.; Santa Monica, CA, Pittsburgh, PA. This position is eligible for RAND's hybrid work environment, which enables a blend of on-site and remote work. Some onsite presence will be required to meet business needs, including on an ad-hoc basis; onsite needs will vary from month to month.

Writing Sample Required

Candidates are required to submit samples of work that demonstrate their writing and content creation skills. Samples may include brand assets, speeches, corporate social media content, posters or flyers, or PowerPoint presentations.

Salary range: $88,000 - $156,500

Corporate Communications Officer II: $88,000 - $130,900

Corporate Communications Officer III: $102,800 - $156,500

RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity.The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken). In addition, RAND provides strong benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid time-off and more.
