THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively seeking a Highway Maintenance Coordinator to lead and manage highway maintenance operations within a specific area of a County Maintenance Organization. This role entails the strategic planning and oversight of all maintenance activities in the region, supervising both general and specialized teams, and engaging in direct management of projects as necessary. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The duties associated with this position encompass a thorough analysis of the maintenance requirements for a designated area, which involves evaluating the state of highways, negotiating for essential resources such as labor and equipment, and pinpointing the critical needs of the region. In addition, you will be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of subordinate foremen in carrying out scheduled tasks and stepping in to make necessary adjustments to meet established objectives. This role also involves assessing the capabilities of subordinate staff members and recommending training initiatives and development opportunities aimed at improving their overall effectiveness. Success in this position demands a meticulous attention to detail, robust leadership abilities, and the capacity to make informed strategic decisions to ensure the efficient execution of maintenance operations within the region.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Three years as a Highway Foreman 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of technical experience in highway maintenance or highway construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
