Arete is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Production Machinist Specialist to join our dynamic team in Tucson, AZ. In this role, under general direction, perform skilled machinist work in constructing and repairing equipment and instruments; may use other shop skills such as sheet metal, welding, wood work, electrical, and plumbing in performing the work; and to do other related work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Construct, install, maintain, and repair various types of field and laboratory testing machines and equipment, including standard and special measuring, testing, and experimental instruments and apparatus and various precision instruments.
  • Perform minor design of components
  • Develop modifications to tools and instruments from partial drawings or instructions
  • Perform general bench work, machine work, hand tool work, welding work, and sheet metal work
  • Remove and test machine specimens for stress and chemical analysis, i.e. coolant samples, oil samples
  • Lay out work for machinists and helpers in the shop
  • Adjust and calibrates tools as needed
  • Fill out assembly and test documentation. May write and edit procedures
  • Assist in troubleshooting failures to identify root causes of malfunctions. Implement corrective actions
  • Monitor and verify quality of assemblies in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
  • Position requires interaction with suppliers and internal customers
  • Additional duties as assigned

Experiences and Background We Look For:

  • Two years of experience as a senior level tool and die maker or as a senior level machinist in work involving the construction, installation, and repair of instruments and other equipment. (Should include extensive experience and skills in machine setup and proficiency in the use of all standard machine shop equipment.)
  • Knowledge of: Operation of machine tools and other equipment used in the machinist trade; proper methods of working and machining the various metals and other materials used in the manufacture of aerospace-related equipment; instrument making; methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in constructing, installing, and repairing machinery; principles of mechanics; electric motors used to run machine shop and laboratory equipment; safety regulations and practices.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • U.S. citizenship, background screen and drug test are required to meet position eligibility.

Nice to Have:

  • Typical Education Experience: Associate degree or 6+ years of related Experience
  • Previous experience in a production environment
  • Tool and asset management, organization, lab maintenance, and tool and consumable expiration date management
  • Use of hand tools/torque tools
  • Effective professional written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Take direction, input, and feedback from internal customers such as lab managers and program managers and implement solutions

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $85,000; however, Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to: the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.

U.S. citizenship is required to meet position eligibility.

Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Successful passage of a criminal background screen is required to meet position eligibility. Arete will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring.

Successful passage of a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test is required to meet position eligibility.
