Position Description
The Manufacturing Engineer oversees production processes, ensuring they are capable of consistently producing a product that meets Modine's specifications and quality requirements. This position performs a wide variety of activities, which affect production costs, product quality and employee safety while having a detailed knowledge of most mechanical and electrical systems. Primary Responsibilities This is an individual contributor position reporting to the Engineering Supervisor and will be accountable for coordinating or leading multiple projects or teams concurrently while working with and through all disciplines. This position will also lead teams to analyze manufacturing problems and will develop alternative cost effective efficient approaches to their problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit and prepare written reports of operations identifying potential cost reductions, procedural and material variances; estimates project feasibility.
- Develops and prepares written procedures to assure safe, effective use of material and equipment while working closely with assembly-operator employees to provide training for all new engineering processes implemented in areas of responsibility.
- Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and metrics providing management with data to understand future state requirements.
- Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Supports manufacturing with understanding and application of various plant-specific software, such as SAP, Solid Edge, turret / laser software, Sigmanest, and MP-2.
- Supports and remains committed to plant safety, and plays an active part in safety meetings.
- Oversees various plant -related projects involving company employees and outside contractors.
- Designs fixtures and special application tools through maintenance and tool room employees or through outside vendors to acquire fixtures and tools.
- Works closely with Product Engineering team to provide Design for Manufacturing input, ensuring new designs are feasible and effective to manufacture within plant capabilities.
- Review and calculate labor, material and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer's procedures and industry best practices are followed in order to keep production equipment operational.
- Works independently or with engineers and vendors, investigates and develops solutions for process limitations and cost reductions.
- Plays key role in cost reduction, waste minimization, product and process FMEAS, and ISO.
- Manage all engineering related change implementation into production processes, either Change Request/Change Order or New Product Development implementation, in conjunction with Production, Product Engineering, Materials & Procurement, and any other involved stakeholders.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Engineering, or related technical field), plus 2 or more years of experience, or equivalent in engineering or manufacturing.
- This position bust also be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, stand for up to 4 hours per day, sit for more than 4 hours per day, occasionally grasp items with either hand, and walk for up to than 4 hours per day.
