Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading international law firms with more than 4000 lawyers and staff in 32 offices is seeking to hire a Patent Docket Supervisor. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Patent Support Services, the Patent Docket Supervisor will be responsible for providing docketing assistance to attorneys and staff in the practice group, and supervises the daily workflow of the docket specialists.

Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements. This position can reside in any of the following offices with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule: Boston, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, or Washington DC. Flexibility with overtime is required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise daily operations of docketing staff including workflow and assignments, quality control of work, coordination of work on CPI database.

  • Manage and control portfolio operations including US and foreign annuities and maintenance fees and all related tasks.

  • Oversee the routing of all incoming patent related documents.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain local office docketing system maintenance policies and best practices.

  • Maintain docket due dates and remarks in the computerized docket system, including incoming domestic and foreign mail and email, incoming patent office mail, and papers filed in the patent office.

  • Program, run and provide docket reports to attorneys, legal assistants, and legal staff.

  • Monitor actions in computerized database and sending final reminders to the attorneys, legal assistants, and legal staff regarding drop-dead deadlines.

  • Implement database update rules changes based on changing US, international and foreign national patent processing law, rules, and procedures.

  • Verify docket database accuracy through spot checks, verification of docket entries from incoming mail and by other means.

  • Facilitate the development of staff by providing opportunities and support; provide timely feedback on work product; regularly coach, evaluate, and recognize staff performance and accomplishments.

  • Develop and implement docketing procedures and train docket specialists.

  • Assist in recruiting process for new docket specialists including interviewing and new hire training.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma: some post-high school education preferred; and

  • A minimum of 5 years of docketing experience and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and superior client service orientation.

  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and professional, open-minded approach to working effectively with differing opinions and diverse personalities.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills and ability to manage and motivate staff and results oriented with time-management and organizational skills to prioritize and assign work and manage projects.

  • Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands

  • Technical and software skills: Practice Group: CPI; Database Software: MS Access, Citrix, Worksite, and VPN; Document Management: MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Adobe Acrobat, FileSite.

$93,800.00- $150,050.00.

For positions in Washington DC., the salary range for this job posting is

$98,000.00- $156,800.00.
