Job Overview:The IET and WPL Supervisor is responsible for the implementation and supervision of the IRC Adult Education program's Integrated Education and Training (IET) and Workplace Literacy (WPL). The IET components target providing adult learners with a cohesive blend of vocational training, contextualized basic skills education, and workforce skills preparation. The WPL components aim to establish and manage partnerships with local businesses in order to develop customized educational programming for employees of those businesses to develop both language and vocational skills that will lead to increased job opportunities and pathways.

The Supervisor will manage full-time and part-time staff, interns and program volunteers as they implement these instructional services. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring effective program enrollment and maintaining effective curricula and teaching best practices across program areas. This position reports directly to the Adult Education Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, effective adult education services to clients through the development and refinement of curricula and operational oversight. Proactively ensure the department is providing effective, research-based instruction to clients.
  • Develop and implement effective IET programs, intertwining adult education with technical and vocational training through strategic instructional design, ensuring the creation of quality Single Sets of Learning Objectives (SSLOs) and lesson plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local workforce partners and identify their workplace literacy needs to develop collaboration to implement WPL programs.
  • Conduct student outreach, recruitment, intake and orientation, and support retention efforts for Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) program.
  • Ensure compliance with program standards and grant requirements through accurate completion and tracking of student registration, pre- and post-assessments, student education plans, daily attendance, and other instructional data metrics.
  • Recruit, screen, interview, and onboard volunteers and interns to support Adult Education programming and support the training and day-to-day management of those volunteers and interns.
  • Proactively engage in resource and community partnership development through proposal development. Research funding opportunities, build relationships, and represent IRC within the community.
  • Supervise the team in accordance with IRC's People Manager Standards.
  • Monitor Adult Education program services to promote compliance with all program standards and grant requirements. Includes the accurate tracking of client progress, outcome indicators, grant deliverables, and budgets.
  • Assist in preparation of program reports (quantitative and narrative) as required by funders.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with IRC management on the status of adult education programs and provide timely reports on client progress, program successes and needs, and staffing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: University degree (4-year) required, with preference in education, TESOL/ESOL, social work, or Workforce Development; graduate degree (M.A., M.S., M.Ed. or higher) strongly preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of nonprofit program coordination or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working in an educational setting in various global environments and contexts.
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervising and managing staff.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong desire to support vulnerable individuals and families and enthusiasm for working in various global environments and contexts.
  • Enthusiasm for adult education and language learning.
  • An interest in immigrant and refugee and asylee issues and the resettlement process.
  • Strong communication abilities, including the ability to lead classes and oversee community volunteers and adult learners.
  • Detail oriented and comfortable working with online databases, able to manage budget and analyze program data.
  • Comfortable working in-person, online, and over the phone, with adult learners, sometimes with little or no English proficiency.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently on projects, and follow through on critical tasks.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, co-teaching and facilitating learning through others.
  • Strong time management skills and comfortability with computer and web-based office and communication platforms.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Bi-lingual abilities in a language spoken by an IRC client group is desired.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office working environment with both in-person and hybrid delivery of orientations, meetings, and class sessions.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
