Position Description

Pantograph Elements: Operates / maintains / performs changeovers on Cascade welder. Installs proper fixture in heat exchanger assembly press according to size of unit. Inserts bottom header, plugs, and tubes, then lowers top header on tubes and inserts top plugs. Activates assembly press using two hands. Adjusts fixture and lines up torches accordingly, then activates welder. Inspects and adjusts weld and torch alignment as necessary. Removes completed heat exchanger with hoist and places on conveyor. Performs material handling as required. Records time and production.
Repair Weld Elements: Using manual hand trucks, moves unit from conveyor to repair weld fixture. Visually determines, by use of light source, where heat exchanger assembly requires repair welding, and repairs using heliarc or mig/tig torch. Must keep welder properly adjusted. Inspects repaired unit to ensure quality, initials, and removes unit from work booth with manual hand trucks. Trucks completed units to assembly line staging area at end of shift. Informs Supervisor of improper equipment operation and defective material. Responsible for keeping work area neat, clean, and orderly. Records time and production.

Key Responsibilities

1. Install proper Cascade fixture in accordance with proper safety lock out procedure.
2. Install appropriate fixture into heat exchanger assembly press using various tools (hammers, mallets, etc.) and in accordance with proper safety lockout procedure.
3. Install headers, plugs, and tubes into assembly press, then activate press using two hand control.
4. Remove heat exchanger from assembly press with hoist and place on conveyor.
5. Adjust torches and argon flow as necessary.
6. Transport parts to and from work area using lift trucks.
7. Follow specific lockout procedure, including using padlock to assure assembly press is deenergized, when setting up assembly press.
8. Inspect safety equipment including welding helmet, weld curtains, etc. Notify Supervisor of defects.
9. Using manual lift truck, operator positions unit from conveyor to weld booth into the repair weld fixture.
10. Visually determines, by use of light source, where heat exchanger requires repair, and repairs with heliarc or mig/tig welder.
11. Keep welder properly adjusted.
12. Hand trucks units to and from workstation.
13. Inspects and wears safety equipment, including welding helmet, welding vest, protective gloves, etc.
14. Inspect own work to ensure all seams are properly repaired. Write initials on finished unit.
15. Reports improper equipment operation and defective material to Supervisor.
16. Records time and production, and meets specific job production standards.
17. Works eight-hour shift concurrent with other plant operations. Periodic daily and weekend overtime as production schedules demand.
18. May be assigned task of training new/transferred employees as required.
19. Other essential functions as needed may be assigned.

Required Education & Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Requires reading, writing, adding, subtracting, ability to operate manual lift trucks, general mechanical comprehension, and following of instructions. Must be able to successfully master all elements of training control document for this job.
