Background
NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) provides the framework for all positioning activities in the Nation. The foundational elements of latitude, longitude, elevation, and shoreline information impact a wide range of important activities. NGS Coastal Mapping Program (CMP) supplies the shoreline for NOAA's nautical charts and other users using photogrammetry, which creates digital maps of the shoreline. NGS is responsible for mapping the 95,000 miles of the U.S. shoreline. Currently the CMP has a data base of over half a million aerial photographs and thousands of shoreline maps.

Position Description
Will work with NGS to understand their strategic goals and. Job duties include:

  • Provide geodetic consulting services including input and legacy perspective on a variety of tasks, projects, and programs, as well as input to various committees, partners, stakeholders, etc. regarding the use of software and procedures.
  • Analyze and resolve geodetic technical issues with data values, adjustments, database loading, data publication and data management.
  • GIS management and development including migrating database and GIS data to new system.
  • Apply tools such as GeoServer, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Open Source GIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, Oracle Spatial, and UNIX.
  • Assist in supporting GIS applications by fixing errors and making requested changes.
  • Provide training in the use of various tools programs including checking, adjustment, loading, and metadata management.
  • Analyze new requirements for technical accuracy and consistency across various projects, programs, and international standards.
  • Provide various levels of support for incoming data management, analysis, quality control, database loading and retrieval.
  • Perform quality control, checking and geodatabase loading of projects and/or continuous GNSS data submitted from outside users/partners as well as maintaining metadata for these efforts.
  • Review new algorithms and procedures for accuracy.

Required Skills
10 years of relevant experiences. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with sensitive or classified data.

Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident and be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

Education
Ph.D. degree in Physics, Cartography, Optics, Mathematics or Geodesy or related field

Location
This is a remote position reporting to NOAA's Silver Spring facility.

Salary
The salary range for this role is $83,000 - $239,000. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT uses several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the position's scope and expected duties, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
