Job Summary

Under the direction of the Lead Manufacturing Process Engineering or Senior Manufacturing Manager, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will be involved in optimizing and improving the current processes on the manufacturing floor.

Essential Functions:



  • Develop and document injection molding processes using scientific molding principles.
  • Coordinate mold revisions and repairs to existing molds.
  • Make recommendations for corrective actions to the Engineering and/or Mold Maintenance department.
  • Act as liaisons between Engineering, Quality Assurance, Tool Room, and Manufacturing for mold and process related issues.
  • Assist Senior Manufacturing Manager with machine specifications; evaluating training needs for Process Technicians and Machine Operators; evaluating process capabilities and implementing cost savings projects.
  • Develop and maintain FEMA's/PFEMA's on existing and new products.
  • Visual inspection of manufactured parts.
  • Assist in maintaining HellermannTyton's IATF16949/ISO14001 certification by supporting: Corporate policies, procedures, and required documentation.


Other Functions



  • Optimize regrind consumption on a mold and material basis.
  • Help coordinate and resolve processing related deviations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Key Competencies



  • Ability to perform injection mold set ups and startups.
  • Ability to do viscosity curve studies, gate freeze studies, and find proper transfer position.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Complete understanding of PFEMA's/FEMA's.
  • Core Tool understanding (APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA).
  • Conducting DOE's and recording results.
  • Ability to understand and interpret SPC and DOE data and results.
  • Ability to use and understand 2 - D Cad drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of Scientific Injection Molding Principles.
  • Working knowledge of QA lab testing equipment.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of mold construction and mold set-up.
  • Thorough knowledge of sequence and capabilities of injection molding machines.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation of all auxiliary equipment.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the effects of each machine control on the behavior to the process.
  • Ability to troubleshoot/identify causes of processing problems.
  • Successful completion of forklift certification at HellermannTyton.


Qualifications (skills, knowledge, experience)



  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Degree or certification in plastic technologies preferred.
  • Advanced experience in all aspects of injection molding - minimum of 5 years preferred.
  • Working knowledge of thermoplastics processing, resin processing characteristics, mold construction, cavity construction, and gate design.
  • Knowledge of SPC principles.
  • Working knowledge of PFEMA's.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mold/process related problems.
  • Working knowledge of SPC/DOE's.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Technical drawing knowledge and understanding.
  • Knowledge of mold making procedures and costing.
  • Ability to manage projects.
  • Basic computer skills necessary. Experience with spreadsheets, word documents, and saving files preferred.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs and be able to stand/walk for up to 12 hours when assigned.
  • Forklift experience, preferred.
  • Ability to inspect production for quality defects.
  • Able to work non-standard hours and weekends as necessary to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Must have valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and adequate insurance
