Director of Adult Education

This position is an on-campus, full-time, exempt, 12-month, administrative appointment based in Champaign, Illinois with an annual salary of $82,817.66.

The Director of Adult Education provides strategic leadership and management for programs and grants supporting adult education, non-native English language instruction, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) initiatives. This role is responsible for advancing educational and entry level workforce opportunities within District 505, ensuring alignment with community and industry needs. The Director fosters collaboration with local employers, community organizations, and educational partners to enhance access to adult education, English language instruction, and workforce training.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides strategic planning, program development and oversight for the Parkland College Adult Education division with specific oversight to assigned division responsibilities for initiatives including but not limited to Adult Basic Education, English Language
  • Learning programs, and community literacy programs.
  • Develops and coordinates strategies in collaboration with internal and external partners to support student success in transition programs. Designs, develops, implements, and monitors relevant workforce programming promoting transition from adult education to college level course entry.
  • Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate department personnel.
  • Direct supervision of staff for Adult Basic Education, English Language Learning and literacy programs, and other programs supported by Adult Education. Supervises employees, prioritizes and assigns work, and conducts performance evaluations. Provides leadership and team development with staff.
  • Administers, plans, implements, and evaluates goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for adult education programs in collaboration with college, community, workforce, and funding partners.
  • Manages the collection, compilation, and analysis of data and the preparation of a variety of complex reports, statements, and communications.
  • Manages student engagement, recruitment, intake, orientation, and enrollment management.
  • Responsible for grants management and participates in grant writing with internal and external agencies. Including preparing state or federal reports.
  • Provides leadership and direction for effective and efficient allocation of physical, financial, and human resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Adult Education, Career (vocational/technical) Education, Educational Administration, Social Work, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in an educational setting or social service, or community college experience; OR a
  • Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Career Education (vocational/Technical), Educational Administration, Social Work or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in an educational setting or social service, or community college experience.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present to both large and small groups, actively listen, and respond appropriately. Including mathematical abilities sufficient to perform the functions of the position.
  • Proven expertise in independently and collaboratively researching, developing, and implementing strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading, coordinating, and supervising teams to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and adapt to new programs as technology progresses.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
