Position Summary: Learner Support and Transition's Project Proven department provides comprehensive Adult Education, academic case management, and systems navigation services to individuals impacted by the justice system. Proven's basic goal is to help students in regional county jails transition successfully out of incarceration into education and employment, while also coordinating wrap-around services with community partners such Justice Support Services, Probation and Parole, addiction recovery agencies, workforce development partners, and other basic needs supports. Proven faculty teach employment, high school equivalency, and re-entry classes in and out of the county jails. They also provide individualized academic case management to justice-impacted students, through which they design opportunities for academic development and coordinate services with a range of internal and external partners.


Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.
3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
4. Instruction - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Design and deliver large group and individualized lessons using the Adult Education curriculum, contextualized to the students' career paths, goals, and strengths.
  • Teach classes in jail, community, and on-campus environments, using multiple modes of delivery.
  • Scaffold and differentiate instruction using Universal Design for Learning principles in an open-enrollment, variable attendance format.
  • Employ a variety of teaching methods, formative and summative assessments, and technologies.
  • Align instructional offerings with outcomes dictated by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, including high school equivalency, completed vocational training, improved employment, and college transition.
  • Anchor teaching in poverty-informed, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive principles to promote inclusive learning environments and skills development.
5. Academic Case Management - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Develop, monitor, and update Personal Education Plans (PEPs) for justice-impacted students.
  • Coordinate individualized curricular pathways.
  • Provide regular support sessions to students designed to monitor and support academic progress.
  • Incorporate wrap-around services in student PEPs alongside campus and community partners and on-campus services.
6. Community Leadership and Engagement - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Tailor educational offerings to the requirements and restrictions dictated by regional county jails.
  • Coordinate educational opportunities in and out of the jails with community partners
  • Serve as an advocate for justice impacted individuals on campus and in the community

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, or equivalent, with teaching license or post baccalaureate teaching certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, or Counseling, Social Work, or related field
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience working in corrections
  • Experience teaching underserved populations
Required Certification/Licenses:
  • Maintain necessary credentials and professional development in accordance with Higher Learning Commission, WTCS Faculty Quality Assurance System, other program accreditation or individual occupational licensures and state and federal law.
  • Meet La Crosse County Jail requirements to teach independently on site.


Special Instructions/About Western

This position reports to: Manager - Project Proven

Starting annual/hourly salary range based on education and experience: $60,400 - $80,050

This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees.
