Position Highlights The Department of History at the University of Arizona invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in U.S. History to begin August 2025. (full time, with benefits).

The department seeks applicants prepared to teach introductory-level U.S. History undergraduate courses and upper division courses in their subfield expertise, both in person and online. The successful candidate will also participate in activities related to the academic mission of the Department, College, and University.

As part of the University of Arizona's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of History offers BA, MA, and PhD programs on campus, an online BA through Arizona Online, and outreach activities through our Public History Collaborative. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach
    six courses during contract term (e.g. 3:3 teaching load)
  • Maintain
    regularly scheduled office hours
  • Prepare
    teaching materials independently and collaboratively
  • Attend
    meetings and/or events as requested
  • Contribute
    to departmental efforts to develop innovative approaches to enhancing
    student engagement and fostering inclusive excellence
  • Additional
    duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in U.S. History or
    related discipline in hand at time of employment
  • University-level teaching
    experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Online teaching experience
  • Ongoing research agenda in U.S. History
