Summary:

The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) Bidderford/Sanford partners with the Regional Chief Nursing Officer/Local Healthcare System Chief Nursing Officer (Regional CNO/ LHS CNO) to develop innovative strategic direction for nursing services, including implementation and evaluation of developed plans. The ACNO shares responsibility and accountability for the delivery of high quality, individualized patient care. The ACNO has direct responsibility for designated areas/functions within nursing services, as delegated by the Regional CNO/LHS CNO. The role also includes broad-based decision-making authority within nursing services. He/she functions as an expert nurse who facilitates the development of nursing leaders and other members of the nursing services team. In the absence of the Regional CNO/LHS CNO, the ACNO has overall accountability for the nursing services division, serving as the liaison to the other members of the Executive Team. The ACNO assumes administrative on call responsibilities as designated by the Regional CNO/LHS CNO. The ACNO also performs other duties as designated by the Regional CNO/LHS CNO. The ACNO role as described is considered the succession plan for a CNO role, and/or should be the highest level of Nursing Leadership at a designated site as appropriate.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Master's Degree in Nursing or other related field required. If masters is not in nursing then a BSN is required.
  2. License/Certifications: Current licensure as a registered nurse in Maine.
  3. Experience: Approximately five to seven years in progressively more responsible leadership roles in nursing, providing a thorough understanding of hospital and nursing standards and procedures, as well as applicable state, federal, and regulatory agency requirements.
  4. High level interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with a wide audience, including: patients and families, care team members, providers and other leaders, Board of Directors and other community members, as well as outside agency officials.
  5. Effective analytical and decision making skills in order to develop and implement new systems, techniques, and/or procedures; determine needs for capital equipment and personnel, improve the operating efficiency of assigned departments; prepare reports based on analysis of current departmental/divisional/organizational performance.
  6. Ability to balance quality with cost savings and expenses management.
  7. Ability to communicate internal and external issues affecting organizational performance and act to address them quickly and decisively.
  8. Provides/supports adequate resources for individuals and groups to ensure success. Clarifies organizational concerns. Promotes cross organizational cooperation.
  9. Demonstrates support for and models teamwork by working cooperatively with peers and subordinates towards the achievement of organizational and system wide goals and objectives. Publicly recognizes and encourages intra and inter departmental team efforts and accomplishments.
