Internship Summary:

Reports To: Associate Director of Visitor Experience & Group Tour

This exciting role offers the opportunity to contribute to the marketing and promotion of Washington, DC as a premier destination. As a Tourism & Visitor Experience Intern, you will assist in various aspects of the department's operations, including:



  • Content Creation: Updating the department's newsletter and assisting with website content.
  • Visitor Services: Handling visitor inquiries, brochure orders, and distribution.
  • Event Planning: Contributing to event brainstorming and logistics.
  • Familiarization Tours: Assisting in planning and participating in FAM tours.
  • Marketing Support: Assisting with international marketing promotion collateral needs.
  • Database Management: Updating and maintaining the tourism department database.
  • Social Media: Supporting the department's group tour social media efforts.

Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Update department quarterly newsletter content.
  • Assist with Visitor Experience inquiries, brochure orders and distribution.
  • Assist with event brainstorming and logistics.
  • Assist in planning and participating in familiarization (FAM) tours.
  • Assist with international marketing promotion collateral needs.
  • Update and maintain the tourism department database.
  • Assist department with group tour social media.
  • Assist department with relevant website edits (copy editing).
  • Additional projects as assigned.


What You Bring: Education, Experience & Competencies:



  • You must be currently enrolled in college; must be junior or senior year college student, in good standing.
  • Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, and Event Planning majors strongly preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Social media experience a plus.
  • Previous internship experience a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • The position requires interaction with partners, members and clients.
  • Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy
  • Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy, enthusiasm for Washington, DC


Internship Specifics:

Duration



  • Summer ( start week of June 11 - ending week of August 11).
  • You must be available for work minimum 30 hours per week.
  • Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.


Work Environment:

This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum of two days a week and as determined by supervisor. Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.
