Nature and Scope

The QC Microbiologist I will perform microbial testing and environmental monitoring according to current guidance and established procedures for analysis of samples in the Quality Control Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring Laboratories.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Successfully operate instrumentation including: pH meter, Balances, Autoclave, Vitek ID System, Sterility Isolator/LFH/BSC, BET System, Active Air Sampler, Particle Counter.

  • Ability to perform all duties of QC Technician.

  • Perform support work such as Quality control testing of in-house prepared and commercially purchased media, stock culture maintenance, data trending, etc.

  • Train and qualify in of the following areas: environmental monitoring, sterility, bioburden/water testing, BET, and specials projects (antimicrobial preservative effectiveness testing, Edge of Failure Testing, disinfectant efficacy, container closure studies, etc.)

  • Maintain all necessary documentation regarding all activities listed above.

  • Prepare product samples to be sent to external testing labs.

  • Perform any other tasks/duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in science Microbiology, Biology or related field required.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, detail oriented, capable of multi-tasking.

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Physical Environment and Requirements

  • Specific vision requirements include 20/40 near vision (can be corrected with eyeglasses or contacts) and color vision.

Expected Hourly Rate:

$32.94 - $36.00

The hourly rate displayed is the minimum and maximum hourly rate of compensation for the role that the employer in good faith believes to be accurate at the time of the posting of an advertisement for the role. Actual compensation for the role will be based on a number of different factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, knowledge, skills and experience.
